Starting situation
The new reservoir Viderböden is the "heart" of the snowmaking system, which is operated by the Silvrettaseilbahn AG. Due to landslides, the location of the existing storage pond had to be abandoned. The Silvrettaseilbahn AG was looking for a new, geologically secure section to create a new water storage tank.
Implementation
This should be as close as possible to the previous location to connect the lines without long distances and from there to be able to initiate the water into the extensive network of the existing system without unnecessary earthworks. The Viderböden were outstandingly suitable for this purpose and in just three and a half months of construction, a heart-shaped reservoir with a sealing system consisting of a HDPE waterproofing membrane in accordance to Austrian Standard (ÖNORM) S 2073, protective fleece and gravel cover was created.
Therefore, MICROSPIKE HighGrip waterproofing membranes were used. This structured geomembrane has ≥20.000 knobs / m², making it the ideal solution for steep slopes in combination with protective or drainage pathways. In addition, the material was energetically enriched (BIO +) in order to reduce the growth of algae and to start snowmaking at higher temperatures.
