It is an experience not to be missed: AGRU Kunststofftechnik GmbH offers particularly committed apprentices the opportunity to complete a unique internship at its US subsidiary, AGRU America.
As pioneers of this programme, two hard-working apprentices, Rene and Florian, set off across the Atlantic, with first-class academic achievements in their pockets and full of anticipation.
In the bright South Carolina sunshine, they dived into the working environment of AGRU America in Andrews. The American work mentality, which is characterised by a relaxed atmosphere and a lack of stress, was a welcome change for the two young men. Despite strict safety regulations that prohibited them from operating cranes and forklifts, they were able to actively participate in injection moulding and tool preparation and contribute their capabilities.
Outside of working hours, the two had the opportunity to enjoy American life to the full. From taking part in the Harley weekend and a round of top golf with the Gruber family to sampling American sweets and fast food, Rene and Florian never missed an opportunity to make their leisure time as varied as possible. And they were not alone. A network of contacts was always on hand to help the apprentices in case of problems and provide support.
One highlight of their stay was a visit to AGRU's large-diameter pipe factory in Charleston, where the impressive PE 100-RC pipes and fittings of the XXL piping system are manufactured. These pipes with an outer diameter of up to 3.5 metres are evidence of impressive technological progress in plastics technology, which the apprentices were able to experience live.
On their return to Austria, Rene and Florian enthusiastically reported on their experiences. They see the programme as an amazing opportunity for personal development and to broaden their professional horizons. Rene sums up their experiences: "It's a completely different life over there. You can't imagine it if you've never been there. It's extremely cool to have had this experience."
Their conclusions? They would repeat this internship any time and highly recommend it to all future trainees at AGRU. After all, as they point out, it is not only the practical experience that is a central part of the training, but also the opportunity to get to know new cultures and working methods. Every apprentice should take advantage of this opportunity to broaden their horizons and gain unforgettable experiences.
